Excerpted from the Terminal Capabilities reference manual:
Typical screen editing functions are insert-line, delete-line, insert-character, and delete-character. Terminals performing these functions are usually called intelligent, even if their behavior is otherwise moronic. Terminals without these features cannot be officially called dumb because Lear Seigler took the strange tactic of trademarking that term, and reserves the exclusive right to call their terminals dumb.
